Pivotal Weather

Fall in San Antonio is known for its up-and-down weather, and it’s certainly been that way the last couple months. Another cold front is heading toward South Texas on Monday night, and it will produce roller-coaster temperatures. Let’s take a look at the timing and exactly how cold it will get.

Monday’s timeline

Morning (4-9 a.m.): It will be mild and muggy to start the day. Low temperatures will be in the mid-60s, which is about 15 degrees above average for this time of year. Thanks to ample moisture in the atmosphere, dense fog and drizzle will be possible across South Texas. Give yourse;f extra time on your morning commute.

Midday (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.): Temperatures will reach 70 degrees just after 10 a.m., on their way to the upper 70s by afternoon. We won’t come close to the daily record of 85 degrees, but in a few spots temperatures could touch the 80-degree mark.

It will be a very warm Monday in South Texas. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 70s in San Antonio, close to 10 degrees above average for this time of year.

Pivotal Weather

Partly sunny skies are expected during the afternoon, and there could be isolated storms in South-Central Texas. However, overall rain chances will be very low in San Antonio: just 10% to 20%. The chance of rain will be higher to the east.

Evening and night: (5 p.m. to midnight): The cold front will start to come through around sunset. Wind will change direction and start moving into San Antonio from the northwest. It will be gradual at first, but winds will become stronger late at night, hitting 20-25 mph after 9 p.m. Temperatures will fall to the 60s after sunset and into the 50s overnight.

The rest of the week

Behind the cold front, below-average temperatures are expected for the rest of the week. By Tuesday, highs will be in the low to mid-60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be about 20 mph for much of the day. Some morning gusts could rise above 30 mph.

Cold air will continue to filter in overnight and into Wednesday. Lows will drop into the low-40s to start the day, and highs will be in the low-60s. That is about 10 degrees below average for late November.

By late Wednesday night and heading into Thanksgiving morning, a few showers will be possible as moisture moves in from the south. This will be associated with a weak low-pressure system that is expected to develop in northern Mexico.

Rain chances in San Antonio will depend on exactly where the low pressure tracks. If the low moves over south-central Texas, there will be rain chances in San Antonio the morning of Thanksgiving. If it tracks over the Gulf of Mexico, drier weather will prevail.

Overall rain chances are 30% Thursday morning in San Antonio. If any rain does fall, rain totals would be very light. Otherwise, a cool Thanksgiving is expected. A chilly morning with temps in the 40s will transition to afternoon highs in the low to mid 60s.
