A cold front headed for Louisiana is expected to bring heavy rain and potentially severe weather to portions of the state Monday night and Tuesday morning, and it should make for a chilly Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Storms are expected to start hitting northern Louisiana by Monday afternoon and evening — a tornado watch is in effect for areas near the Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas border — and should roll into the New Orleans metro area after midnight.
After that, temperatures are expected to stay low through the week in much of Louisiana.
Here’s the forecast for your area:
New Orleans
Monday: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to reach the northshore at around 11 p.m. or midnight and should roll into the New Orleans area sometime before 4 a.m. Some of the storms could be severe, according to the National Weather Service of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, with gusty winds and heavy rains. Less than an inch of rain is expected to fall in the New Orleans area, and overnight lows should hit around 65 degrees.
Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms could continue into Tuesday morning, mainly before 7 a.m. Temperatures should hover around the mid to low 60s throughout the day, dropping to the low 50s overnight. Some rain is possible throughout the night.
Wednesday: Wednesday is likely to be cloudy, gloomy and chilly, with a high near 60 and overnight lows expected to dip into the high 40s.
Thanksgiving Day: It could rain again on Thanksgiving, although forecasters expect the heaviest rain to stay out in the Gulf of Mexico. Either way, it will likely be cloudy and cold. Temperatures aren’t expected to get out of the high 50s Thursday, and temperatures overnight should dip into the 40s.
Black Friday: It’ll still be chilly on Black Friday, forecasters said, with a high of around 60 expected that day.
Baton Rouge
Monday: Potentially severe showers and thunderstorms are likely to hit the Baton Rouge area after 5 p.m., bringing gusty winds and less than an inch of rain. Temperatures are expected to drop into the high 50s overnight.
Tuesday: Tuesday will likely be cloudy and breezy, with a high near 66 degrees. Some showers are possible that night, when temperatures are expected to hover around the high 40s.
Wednesday: The gloomy weather is expected to continue Wednesday, and temperatures should max out in the high 50s.
Thanksgiving Day: Light showers are expected in Baton Rouge again on Thursday, although forecasters say the heaviest rain should stay out in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s expected to be a cold turkey day, with highs in the mid 50s and overnight lows dipping into the mid 40s.
Black Friday: Baton Rouge should get at least a little sun on Friday, but temperatures will stay low, with a high of around 59 degrees forecast.
Lafayette
Monday: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to roll through the Lafayette area after 4 p.m., with some severe storms expected. Less than an inch of rain is expected to fall through the night. High winds and a low of around 58 degrees are expected.
Tuesday: Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid 60s and gusty winds. Temperatures could dip into the high 40s.
Wednesday: Wednesday will likely continue to be cloudy and cool, with a high near 59 degrees, a low of 47 degrees and a chance of showers again overnight.
Thanksgiving Day: There’s a chance of some light showers again on Thanksgiving, and temperatures should max out in the mid to low 50s that day. Overnight lows will drop into the mid 40s, forecasters said. There’s a 30 percent chance of showers. It’ll be mostly cloudy, with a high near 54.
Black Friday: Temperatures are expected to reach around 60 degrees Friday, and there should be some sunshine.
Shreveport
Monday: A tornado watch is in effect in Shreveport until 7 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms should start up in the afternoon, some of which forecasters said could be severe. Gusty winds and less the an inch of rain are expected. Overnight temperatures are expected to dip into the high 40s.
Tuesday: Tuesday should be gloomy and cool, with a high near 55 degrees and lows in the high 30s.
Wednesday: Wednesday should be sunny but cool, with daytime highs maxing out in the mid 50s and lows dropping to near freezing temperatures.
Thanksgiving Day: Showers are possible again on Thursday, along with some sunshine and temperatures in the high 50s. Lows that night are expected to stay in the mid 40s.
Black Friday: Friday should be sunny with a high near 60 degrees.
